Spring Into Action: 6 Seasonal Step Challenges Coming to StepMelon v1.4.0

· StepMelon Team

Spring is here, and so is the biggest update to StepMelon since launch. Version 1.4.0 introduces six limited-time seasonal step challenges running from mid-March through mid-May. Each event brings unique goals, collectible badges, and a reason to lace up your shoes when the weather turns warm.

Here is everything you need to know about each challenge.

1. Spring Awakening (March 15—22)

Goal: Hit your daily step goal 7 days in a row.

The first event of the season is designed to shake off winter hibernation. Spring Awakening asks for something simple but powerful: consistency. Meet your personal daily step goal every day for a full week and you earn the Spring Awakening badge.

No inflated numbers, no gimmicks. Just your goal, seven days running. It is the kind of challenge that builds a real habit instead of burning you out on day two.

Tip: If your current goal feels too high for a cold-weather comeback, lower it in Settings before the event starts. There is no shame in a realistic target.

2. Semana Santa (March 29—April 4)

Goal: Hit your daily step goal every day of Holy Week.

Premium event — available in Spanish-speaking regions.

Semana Santa is one of the most culturally significant weeks across Latin America and Spain. This challenge honors the tradition of processions and community walks by encouraging you to stay active every day of Holy Week.

The badge features warm, festive colors inspired by traditional Semana Santa imagery. Whether you are walking in a procession or just taking a long evening stroll, every step counts.

3. Easter Sprint (April 1—7)

Goal: Walk 100,000 steps in one week.

Premium event — available in English-speaking regions.

One hundred thousand steps in seven days. That works out to roughly 14,300 steps per day — a meaningful stretch above the often-cited 10,000-step baseline. The Easter Sprint is for walkers who want to push their limits during the long holiday weekend.

This is the first premium challenge of the spring season. If you have not tried a premium event before, this is a strong one to start with. The badge is worth the effort.

Note: Semana Santa and Easter Sprint occupy the same calendar window. Your device locale determines which one you see. Both are premium events included with your StepMelon subscription.

4. Earth Day Walk (April 20—26)

Goal: Walk 80,000 steps in one week for the planet.

Earth Day falls on April 22, and this challenge wraps a full week around it. The idea is straightforward: walk more, drive less. Eighty thousand steps over seven days is achievable for most regular walkers and gives newer walkers something to stretch toward.

The Earth Day Walk badge features green and blue tones — a small reminder that every step you take outside is a step powered by you, not gasoline.

Why 80K? It is roughly 40 miles over a week. That is 40 miles of car trips replaced, errands walked, and fresh air breathed. Small choices, real impact.

5. Cinco de Mayo (May 1—7)

Goal: Beat your personal daily average on 5 out of 7 days.

Available in Mexico and the United States.

This challenge does not set an arbitrary step count. Instead, it looks at your recent daily average and asks you to beat it on five of the seven days. The result is a challenge that scales to your fitness level automatically.

If you average 6,000 steps, you need to hit 6,001 on five days. If you average 15,000, you need 15,001. It is personal, fair, and surprisingly motivating once you see how close you are each evening.

The Cinco de Mayo badge celebrates the occasion with bold, vibrant design.

6. Mother’s Day Walk (May 8—12)

Goal: Hit 3x your daily step goal on 3 out of 5 days.

The final spring event is the hardest. Three times your daily goal is a serious stretch — if your goal is 8,000 steps, you are aiming for 24,000 on three separate days. This is a challenge built for walkers who want to go big to close out the season.

The timing is intentional. Invite your mom, your partner, your kids. Walk together. The badge you earn is a conversation starter, and the steps you take together are what actually matter.

How Seasonal Events Work in StepMelon

All six events appear automatically in the app when they go live. Open StepMelon on your Apple Watch, and you will see a banner on the Today screen with the active event, your progress, and how many days remain.

  • Free events (Spring Awakening, Earth Day Walk) are available to everyone.
  • Premium events (Semana Santa, Easter Sprint) require a StepMelon premium subscription.
  • Regional events (Semana Santa, Cinco de Mayo) appear based on your device locale settings.

Earned badges are permanent. They stay in your collection and sync across devices via iCloud. You can share any badge as a branded image card directly from the Badges tab.
