Frequently Asked Questions

What devices does StepMelon support?

StepMelon runs on four platforms:

  • Apple Watch — Series 4+, watchOS 10.0+
  • iPhone — iOS 15.0+ (standalone step tracker or Apple Watch companion)
  • Android Phone — Android 8.0+ (standalone step tracker)
  • Wear OS by Google — Wear OS 5.0+ (pairs with Android phone app)

The phone apps work as standalone step trackers — no smartwatch required.

Do I need a smartwatch?

No! Both the iPhone and Android phone apps work as standalone step trackers using your phone's built-in motion sensors. A smartwatch is optional — pair an Apple Watch or Wear OS watch for wrist-based tracking if you have one.

How do rest days work?

You get 2 rest days per week. When you take a rest day, your streak continues and your goals reset. Rest days refresh every Monday.

What's included in Premium?

Premium includes streaks & achievements (16 badges), daily challenges (4 types), milestones (7 lifetime goals), seasonal events with collectible badges, pace notifications, smart insights & predictions, advanced theme customization (4 levels), main view customization (5 layouts), adaptive goals, and email support. $2.99/month or $19.99/year with a 7-day free trial.

Is my data private?

Yes. Detailed fitness history stays on your devices, and core tracking works without an account. Optional Social securely syncs account, profile, relationships, and daily fitness summaries for authorized friends and private groups. Privacy controls start closed, and StepMelon does not sell data or use advertising tracking.

Can I use the phone app without a watch?

Absolutely. The iPhone and Android apps both track steps using your phone's built-in sensors. You get the same core features: 3-tier goals, rest days, streaks, achievements, and the Today dashboard. A smartwatch adds wrist-based tracking but isn't required.

How does sync work between my devices?

Apple: Your Watch sends step data to the iPhone app in real time. Settings and badges sync via your personal iCloud account. Android: Your Wear OS watch syncs with the phone app automatically. Goals, streaks, and achievements stay in sync across your connected devices.

Can I export my data?

Yes! The iPhone app lets you export your step history as CSV or JSON files.

Steps aren't counting — what should I do?
